Kia ora koutou,

I completed my teacher training at the Dunedin Teachers Training College - approximately thirty five years ago! I have made Southland my home. I live with my husband Heydon in Wallacetown, and we have three adult children who live in Riverton.

I have been a Resource Teacher of Maori since 1989. Although the role of the RTM has changed over this time, I still enjoy my work. I love the challenges (of technology) and of satisfying the different requests received from tamariki, teachers, Principals, schools and iwi.

Whaia e koe, te iti kahuraki; ki te tuoho koe, he mauka teitei In ones pursuit of excellence; if you bow down, let it be before a lofty mountain.

I am a member of the Oraka-Aparima Runaka, one of the four Papatipu Runaka in Southland and take an active part in their affairs, as Secretary, kaikaranga, and facilitator for Te Kete o Aoraki.

Since 1990 my teaching experience has been involved with bilingual, immersion and Kura Kaupapa Maori programmes in Murihiku. During this time my focus has been teaching the curriculum through the medium of Te Reo me ona Tikanga Maori; in both Maori and general education programmes. I have taught from year one to year eight and have had experience in senior management positions. Other education interests have been at a local, national and international level with NZEI-Te Riu Roa. My current role as a Resource Teacher of Maori provides support and leadership in curriculum and Maori education.
